2024 Funders Forum: Advancing Housing Justice through Reparations and Transformation

On March 4, 2024, we convened more than 50 funders in San Francisco around the themes of housing justice and reparations. Held in conjunction with the Innovations & Solutions for Ending Unsheltered Homelessness Conference, the 2024 Funders Forum featured plenary speakers from Liberation Ventures and the Grassroots Power Project, previewed Funders Together's upcoming policy framework, gathered youth homelessness funders in a strategy session, and organized case consultations among peers about advancing housing justice.

Exploring the Promises and Challenges of Vienna's Social Housing Program

Funders Together to End Homelessness San Diego and the Arlene & Michael Rosen Foundation spent six days in Vienna to learn about their social housing model as part of the Vienna Social Housing Field Study. Vienna's Social Housing Model offers lessons for philanthropy and housing justice advocates, however, it does have its fair share of challenges, in particular around racial justice and integration.

Housing Insecurity is an Economic Justice Issue: Building Toward Just Housing Futures

On September 7th, Funders Together hosted a webinar called "Housing Insecurity is an Economics Problem: Connecting Economic and Housing Justice" in conjunction with Funders for Housing and Opportunity, Economic Opportunity Funders, and the Tax Equity Funders Network. In her reflection, Christina Ostmeyer from Funders for Housing and Opportunity re-iterates how solving housing insecurity is ultimately linked with dismantling and transforming our current economic systems, to build towards a more just future.

2023 Funders Institute: Embracing Trust and Loving Accountability

We hosted our 2023 Funders Institute in partnership with the National Conference on Ending Homelessness from July 17-19. Embracing themes of trust and accountability this year, we deepened our understanding of these concepts by leaning into the teachings of transformative justice writers and activists, as well as the knowledge of movement leaders who have effectively embraced these values in their work.

Steeped in History and Justice: Reflections from Foundations for Racial Equity’s Closing Retreat in Tulsa

Funders Together’s second Foundations for Racial Equity (FRE) cohort wrapped its two-year learning-to-action journey learning in May 2023. We spent three days in Tulsa, OK learning about the history of Black Wall Street, deepening our commitment to housing justice, and dreaming of a more just and liberated future together.
