Board of Directors Announcement of Executive Director Resignation

It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that the Board of Directors announces Anne Miskey’s departure as Executive Director of Funders Together to End Homelessness.

From Bill Pitkin, Board Chair, Funders Together to End Homelessness

It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that the Board of Directors announces Anne Miskey’s departure as Executive Director of Funders Together to End Homelessness, effective December 15, 2015. Since 2010, Anne has played a critical role in the development and success of the organization, and while we will miss her and her inspiring leadership, we wish her the best of luck in her new endeavor as the CEO of the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles. We want to thank her for the 5 years of dedicated service which involved many significant accomplishments, including:

  • Growing membership to over 175 members in 36 states and Canada
  • Helping support the creation of 5 Funders Networks in Canada, Florida, Houston, Los Angeles, and San Diego
  • Increasing Funders Together staff from one to six
  • Launching the Foundations for Youth Success community of practice to focus on preventing and ending youth homelessness
  • Launching the Annual Funders Institute to bring funders together from across the U.S. and Canada to highlight philanthropy’s role in ending homelessness
  • Partnering with government agencies and the current Administration around veteran and youth homelessness initiatives

Over the next few months, we will be conducting a search to find the new Funders Together Executive Director. During this transition period, it is our priority to find the best individual to lead, while still maintaining a stable and effective organization. We will share the job announcement soon and ask for your help in identifying candidates who can help Funders Together continue along this successful trajectory.

Again, we cannot thank Anne enough for the dedication, passion, enthusiasm and motivation she has given Funders Together over the past 5 years. She will be greatly missed by the staff, Board, members and partners alike. We look forward to following the success of her career and are hopeful and excited for the next chapter of Funders Together as we continue to support our community of funders in your important work to end homelessness. If you have any questions or concerns during this transition process, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Bill Pitkin, Chair, Board of Directors, Funders Together to End Homelessness

From Anne Miskey, Executive Director, Funders Together to End Homelessness

After half a decade with Funders Together, I recently submitted my resignation to the board in order to pursue new challenges. While I have a mix of emotions as I move into this next chapter of my career, as the CEO of the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles, I will be able to continue in the work that has become so important to me: helping those who have or are currently experiencing homelessness. The decision for my transition did not come easily as I am extremely proud of all that Funders Together staff, board and members have accomplished during the past five years and hold dear to my heart the relationships I’ve built during my time as Executive Director.

I want to give my deepest gratitude to all who have been so supportive of the organization and of me personally over the years: staff, board members, and, of course, our partners and Funders Together members. Without you, the organization would not be as strong and vibrant as it is. I am so honored to have been the leader of this incredible organization and will watch with much excitement and anticipation as it makes strides in supporting and creating solutions to end and prevent homelessness.

All my best,
Anne Miskey, Executive Director, Funders Together to End Homelessness

We joined Funders Together because we believe in the power of philanthropy to play a major role in ending homelessness, and we know we have much to learn from funders across the country.

-Christine Marge, Director of Housing and Financial Stability at United Way of Greater Los Angeles

I am thankful for the local partnerships here in the Pacific Northwest that we’ve been able to create and nurture thanks to the work of Funders Together. Having so many of the right players at the table makes our conversations – and all of our efforts – all the richer and more effective.

-David Wertheimer, Deputy Director at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Very often a lack of jobs and money is not the cause of poverty, but the symptom. The cause may lie deeper in our failure to give our fellow citizens a fair chance to develop their own capacities, in a lack of education and training, in a lack of medical care and housing, in a lack of decent communities in which to live and bring up their children.

-President Lyndon B. Johnson, 1964 State of the Union Address

Funders Together has given me a platform to engage the other funders in my community. Our local funding community has improved greatly to support housing first models and align of resources towards ending homelessness.

-Leslie Strnisha, Vice President at Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland

Our family foundation convenes local funders and key community stakeholders around strategies to end homelessness in Houston. Funders Together members have been invaluable mentors to us in this effort, traveling to our community to share their expertise and examples of best practices from around the nation.
