By Tony Richardson, Board Chair, and Bianca Alston, Board Vice Chair, Funders Together for Housing Justice
At Funders Together for Housing Justice, moments of transition are also moments of clarity. As a Board, we remain deeply committed to the organization’s mission, values, and long-term vision: advancing housing justice as a pathway to racial justice and collective liberation.
Over the past several years, Funders Together has grown in scope, influence, and responsibility — including a deeper obligation to show up with clarity, accountability, and values-alignment in policy, philanthropy, and partnership with communities most impacted by housing instability. This next chapter builds on that momentum.
Launching the Search for Our Next Leader
We are officially launching the search for our next Chief Executive Officer.
This role will guide Funders Together through its next phase of growth—deepening our policy leadership, strengthening member engagement, and continuing to position housing justice as racial justice. The job description reflects the complexity and promise of this moment and the leadership required to meet it.

The Board is approaching this search with care, transparency, and intention. We are partnering with Monday Morning Consultants, an executive search firm with deep experience supporting mission-driven and movement-aligned organizations, to guide a thoughtful and inclusive process. We will engage staff and key stakeholders at appropriate points and prioritize candidates who bring both strategic leadership and deep values alignment.

Looking Ahead for 2026
This work for housing justice is not about growth for growth’s sake—it’s about impact, accountability, and collective power. In the year ahead, members can expect:
- Deeper alignment across housing justice and its intersections—including democracy, immigrant rights, and other movements shaping housing stability and belonging
- Continued leadership in housing justice public policy and advocacy
- Stronger opportunities for member collaboration across regions and issue areas
- Intentional integration of the full spectrum of housing justice into our work including social housing, tenant protections, anti-criminalization efforts, affordable housing, and more.
Policy and Programming: Staying Grounded, Staying Bold
Our policy and programming work remains unapologetically values-driven and grounded in the realities communities face every day. To this end, Funders Together will continue to:
- Advocate for policies that advance housing justice and prevent homelessness by addressing its root causes
- Support funders engaging across the full housing justice continuum—from prevention to crisis response to systems transformation
- Elevate the leadership and expertise of people with lived experience
- Provide tangible actions philanthropy should take to support the needs of people impacted by housing injustices and community partners on the ground
Leaning Into The Values Behind Our New Name
Our name change to Funders Together for Housing Justice reflects more than branding. It reflects a sharpened analysis and a clearer commitment.
Housing justice names the structural forces—racism, ableism, transphobia, economic exploitation—that drive homelessness and housing insecurity. It affirms that housing is a human right and that philanthropy has a responsibility not just to respond to crisis, but to dismantle the systems that create it.
This framework will continue to guide our policy positions, programming, and partnerships.
Leadership Through Transition
Transitions require steadiness, trust, and shared purpose. We are grateful for the leadership of staff and interim executives who are guiding the organization during this period with clarity and care.
As a Board, we are fully engaged, accountable, and confident in the path ahead.
To our members, partners, and community: thank you for walking alongside us. This moment calls for collaboration—not isolation—and for leadership that understands both urgency and care.
We look forward to continuing this work together.
