In the work for housing justice and a liberated world, we are often called to hold the “both/and” to make room for complexity and to honor grief and gratitude, endings and beginnings, loss and growth—all at once. Today, we share a transition moment that holds all of those truths.
With Love and Appreciation, Thank You Amanda and Stephanie
In June, Funders Together for Housing Justice shared that Amanda Andere, Chief Executive Officer, and Stephanie Chan, Chief Strategy Officer, are transitioning to new roles as Co-Presidents of Neighborhood Funders Group.
As their time at Funders Together for Housing Justice comes to a close, it is important to acknowledge and honor the leadership, guidance, energy, and love they have both poured into the organization, its work, and its people.
During their tenure, Amanda and Stephanie helped transform Funders Together into a visible and trusted leader in the housing justice field. Under their guidance, the organization adopted its first public commitment to racial equity, launched signature initiatives like Foundations for Racial Equity, and expanded membership to more than 270 philanthropic partners across the country. Most recently, they steered an evolution from Funders Together to End Homelessness to Funders Together for Housing Justice, as a codification of the justice-oriented approach to the organization’s work.
Beyond the organization itself, Amanda and Stephanie pushed the broader philanthropic and housing justice sectors to embrace a more explicit and rigorous commitment to racial justice. Their leadership helped shift narratives, practices, and funding strategies—encouraging philanthropy to reckon with its role in systems of harm to move resources in ways that center power-building, self-determination, and the lived expertise of directly impacted communities. Through their influence, Funders Together became not only a convener, but a catalyst for bolder, more justice-aligned philanthropy.
They leave behind a powerful foundation for the organization and the broader movement for housing justice. As we move forward with deep commitment from staff, the vision of new leaders, and a continued grounding in Funders Together’s values, we will move in abundance and actualize all that is possible, through love and disruption.
At Funders Together, we move forward from a place of abundance, not scarcity. Amanda and Stephanie have laid a foundation for bold, principled work and we will carry that momentum forward alongside our deeply committed staff and board as we bring in new leadership to hold the future work at hand.
