COVID-19 Safety Protocol

Funders Together to End Homelessness remains committed to ensuring the health and safety of our participants. In addition to the National Alliance to End Homelessness’ health and safety protocols, Funders Together has layered requirements for our Funders Institute. Please read below for our COVID-19 protocols for the 2023 Funders Institute.

Vaccination Requirements

Attendees agree that they are up to date on their COVID-19 vaccination status, as determined by the CDC. As of May 2, 2023, this means either having 1) a complete COVID-19 original vaccination series and the most recent booster dose recommended by the CDC OR 2) having received a full updated COVID-19 vaccine. Please note that the CDC may update these guidelines as needed.

Those requesting a medical or religious exemption will be required to complete a waiver, subject to approval by FTEH staff, and will be given an accommodation plan with information on the public health measures that they will need to take to attend.

Testing

Attendees agree to take a rapid test the morning of July 17, 2023 and show proof of a negative result (photo or the physical test) at the Funders Institute check-in table. Those without proof of a negative test will be asked to take a rapid test onsite in order to enter the Funders Institute. Attendees agree to not attend and participate in the Funders Institute if they receive a positive test result or exhibit symptoms prior to the event.

Masking

Masks (surgical masks, KN95, or N95 mask) are required while indoors during the Funders Institute except when actively eating or drinking. Please note that in the rest of the conference hotel, masking is optional. You can view the National Conference on Ending Homelessness COVID-19 Protocols here

These health and safety precautions apply to ALL Funders Institute attendees, including all volunteers, speakers, staff, and guests. Attendees should check this event webpage for any changes to these precautions, specifically as it relates to the Funders Institute.

How Do I Know if I Am Up to Date with my COVID-19 vaccination?

For the most up to date information, please consult the CDC Website. Below is information pulled from the above webpage on May 2, 2023. We will do our best to update these guidelines if the CDC updates their recommendations. People 6 years and older and considered up to date when either:

  • They have received 1 updated Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The updated vaccines are called “updated” because they protect against both the original virus that causes COVID-19 and the Omicron variant BA.4 and BA.5. Two COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, have developed updated COVID-19 vaccines. Updated vaccines became available for people 12 years and older on September 2, 2022. Those who have received the updated vaccine series after September 2, 2022 are considered up to date with their vaccinations.
  • They have received the original COVID-19 vaccine plus one updated COVID-19 vaccine booster. Previous COVID-19 vaccines are called “original” because they were designed to protect against the original virus that causes COVID-19. Updated vaccines became available for people 12 years and older on September 2, 2022. Those who have received the original series and one updated booster after September 2, 2022 are considered up to date with vaccinations.

What Do I Need to Bring and Show on July 17?

Please bring your own mask to the Funders Institute. A high-quality mask (N95, KN95, or KN94) is preferred but surgical masks as also allowed. When you arrive at the Funders Institute check-in table, we will ask to see your proof of negative rapid test in the form of a photo or physical test.

We joined Funders Together because we believe in the power of philanthropy to play a major role in ending homelessness, and we know we have much to learn from funders across the country.

-Christine Marge, Director of Housing and Financial Stability at United Way of Greater Los Angeles

I am thankful for the local partnerships here in the Pacific Northwest that we’ve been able to create and nurture thanks to the work of Funders Together. Having so many of the right players at the table makes our conversations – and all of our efforts – all the richer and more effective.

-David Wertheimer, Deputy Director at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Very often a lack of jobs and money is not the cause of poverty, but the symptom. The cause may lie deeper in our failure to give our fellow citizens a fair chance to develop their own capacities, in a lack of education and training, in a lack of medical care and housing, in a lack of decent communities in which to live and bring up their children.

-President Lyndon B. Johnson, 1964 State of the Union Address

Funders Together has given me a platform to engage the other funders in my community. Our local funding community has improved greatly to support housing first models and align of resources towards ending homelessness.

-Leslie Strnisha, Vice President at Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland

Our family foundation convenes local funders and key community stakeholders around strategies to end homelessness in Houston. Funders Together members have been invaluable mentors to us in this effort, traveling to our community to share their expertise and examples of best practices from around the nation.

-Nancy Frees Fountain, Managing Director at The Frees Foundation
